Sidewall is the vinyl material that is used to enclose a tent. Some people refer to sidewall as flaps, but the correct term is sidewall.
At Big Tent Events we carry solid white, cathedral window and mesh sidewall that we can install on any of our tents. Sidewall is not automatically included with our tents, it must be ordered along with the tent.
Solid White sidewall is useful when there is a view that you want to block from the view of your guests. It is also used on tents when the outside temperature falls below 40 degrees. Solid sidewall is also useful in blocking the sun from bearing down on a tent.
Cathedral Window sidewall is a solid piece of vinyl that has clear, rounded “window” panels in it. This sidewall allows some light from outside to enter the tent while keeping out the elements.
Mesh sidewall is a vinyl material that is like a thick screen so like a window screen it allows air to flow through the tent, but can cut down a strong breeze to one that is less disruptive. Mesh sidewall does not necessarily keep rain out of a tent. Again think of mesh sidewall like the screens on a window, if the rain is soft and is coming straight down, you should be fine. If the rain is coming down hard or at any sort of an angle, you will get wet.
No sidewall will keep mosquitoes, flies or bees from getting in a tent.
Please talk to one of our event planners to assist you in deciding what style and how much sidewall would be suggested for your event.
